Scarborough Athletic Reserves 1-0 East Riding Rangers
Whilst the first team had a bad day at the office, crashing out of the FA Cup with a 2-1 defeat up at Chester-le-Street, the reserve team managed to beat East Riding Rangers 1-0 to register their first win of the Humber Premier League Divison 1 season.
The game was played in showery conditions at the reserves Filey Sports Complex HQ.
The reserves seem to have gelled a bit since the last time Seadog Blog saw them which was pleasing to note.
The Seadog youngsters took the lead when seeming to score direct from a corner, If it wasn't direct from a corner then it was a very deft touch by someone!
In the second half Boro's keeper saw red for a challenge just outside his box - I guess he was the last man.
This was the cue for East Riding Rangers to press on and 10-man-Boro had to work very hard. The stand-in keeper didn't really have that many saves to make though. Indeed Boro very nearly sneaked a 2nd goal very late on.
Earlier on the game was marred by a nasty injury to our young No 7 who was taken to hospital by Ambulance.
This victory puts the reserves up to 7th place in the early Humber Premier Div 1 table. An unofficial Seadog Blog headcount put the crowd at 28.

HOW TO CO-OWN A FOOTBALL CLUB FROM JUST 25p A WEEK
Q. What do Roman Abramovich, Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Glazer family, Tom Hicks, George Gillett Jr & Seadog Blog have in common?
A. They are all singularly or jointly owners of English Football Clubs.
Yes these names all plow zillions of roubles, shekles & dollars into their clubs for the right to the best seat in the stadium. Except one. One of them only pays 25 pence a week (and he stands on the terraces).
Scarborough Athletic FC are one of a growing number of clubs that are owned (and run) by their own supporters.
You too can be a co-owner of a football club - for less than a weekly packet of crisps.
Have a read HERE for full details.
Even better you can instantly become a co-owner HERE
Take it from Seadog Blog, there is a huge sense of satisfaction and pride knowing that you have an equal say in how your football club is run.
And tonight in the pub, when your mate asks "what have you done today?" You can look him squarely in the face and say " I've become a co-owner of a football club"

No Joy For Seadogs In Farsley AFC Defeat
Scarborough Athletic suffered their first reverse of the 2010/11 season as they went down 1-2 at home to promotion favourites Farsley AFC.
The Seadogs gave as good as they got for most of the match but a late headed strike by Billy Law (below) was not enough and the Boro slip down to 15th in the embryonic league table.
Many thanks to James Hunter for providing the picture.

Well worth a plug (and a visit!)
For those who do not know, this is an initiative that encourages fans to attend non-league games on Saturday 4th September 2010 when there are no Premiership or Championship games taking place (due to England playing on the Friday).
As all Seadogs will be aware, it is Seaham Red Star v Scarborough Athletic that day in the FA Vase.

Scarborough Athletic FC - Seadogs Have Grounds For Optimism
Very positive news today re a new home for Scarborough Athletic F.C.
The minutes of a Scarborough Borough Council meeting about the proposed new sporting village in the Weaponess area of Scarborough (which will include a football stadium) show that a positive response and general backing was received from the SBC councillors.
Read the council minutes in full HERE
Seadog Blog is very encouraged by all this and reiterates his hopes for a football ground to be proud of, one that can be developed to match team progress up the footballing pyramid, and is sustainable - Dartford FC's Princes Park is a fine example of this.

Historic First FA Cup Win For Scarborough Athletic
Congratulations to Scarborough Athletic FC who today held on for a historic first win in the FA Cup.
A Graham Botham strike in the 80th minute was the difference as The Seadogs got past Northern League side Ryton FC. Good photograph of this taken by James Hunter below.
It wasn't a pretty match, the pitch saw to that, but in the cup the result is everything.
Match report HERE
Results elsewhere have made the immediate FA Cup road ahead somewhat clearer.
In the next round (Preliminary) Boro travel north once again to take on Chester-le-Street Town FC.
Should they prevail, then either Norton & Stockton Ancients or Whitehaven A.F.C. await in the First Qualifying Round.

Scarborough Athletic FC Hit The Wembley Trail On Saturday
It's "FA Cup Fever" this Saturday when Boro hit the Wembley trail by traveling up to Tyne & Wear to take on Ryton FC (of the Northern League Division One) in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Cup - The Worlds greatest cup competition.
It is the first of 14 possible hurdles on this particular road to the Wembley Way! Another route is available in the FA Vase (but more of that later)
This will only be Scarborough Athletic FC's 2nd ever venture in the FA Cup - the less said the better about the first foray - and all Seadogs will be hoping for a historic first ever FA Cup Tie victory (and the prize money that goes with it).
Full details of the game HERE
If (and I emphasise IF) the Seadogs are successful then all eyes will be on the result at Brandon United V Chester-le-Street Town - the winners of that tie would be our opponents in the next round (Preliminary) on Saturday 28th August.

Scarborough Athletic 2-2 Lincoln Moorlands Railway
Scarborough Athletic FC's opening day hoodoo continued into a fourth season. The Seadogs have never won an opening day fixture and will now have to wait yet another 12 months for a fifth bite of that particular cherry.
Looking on the bright side though, the 2-2 draw does equal Boro's best ever start to a campaign!
The game started off brightly enough when Scott Phillips found the net with a 5th minute penalty (the quickest goal in the NCEL 2010/11 season!)
But Boro soon lost their way against a physical and robust Lincoln Moorlands Railway. The Railwaymen's front line were quick, skillful and very dangerous. Boro keeper Tom Woodhead had to make a host of fine saves but, inevitably, his lines were breached twice before half-time.
The second-half was much better from a Seadog point of view and they did show a bit more passion. Boro created several chances to draw level but just did not have their finishing boots on. Meanwhile Woodhead was still being called on to keep LMR's danger men at bay.
Boro did eventually nick an equaliser in the dying minutes when Scott Phillips notched his 2nd goal from close range.
There was a controversal ending to the match when a almighty scuffle took place in the LMR penalty area as a corner was being defended. Elbows everywhere and a big kerfuffle ended in both teams being reduced to 10 men for the final few seconds of the match.
It was watched by a good vocal crowd (many resplendant in replica kit) who kept on going throughout the match.

Scarborough Athletic FC - Squad for 2010/11 Just About Complete
Scarborough Athletic FC's playing squad for the 2010/11 season is just about complete.
Many of last seasons regulars remain but we have said farewell to Richard Medcalf and Glenn Powley who have moved onto Barton Town Old Boys & Hall Road Rangers respectively.
New faces include Frank Belt, Nathan Hotte, Jacques Joblon, Chris Jenkinson and Phil Rowland.
Belt & Hotte arrive from Bridlington Town.
Joblon is an ex-Sunderland FC triallist & has played for Garforth Town, Frickley Athletic, Yorkshire Amateur and AFC Emley in the English non-league. He has also played in France (where he played for Arras - who are currently in the fifth tier of French football) and in Greece where he turned out for Fokikos at the third level of their national league.
Jenkinson is ex- Harrogate Railway and Rowland signs on from Bottesford Town.
It is hoped that ex Scarborough FC player Denny Ingram will also sign on, but that is yet to be confirmed.
Squad list taken from Scarborough Athletic FC's excellent WIKIPEDIA entry.

Non League Football Day (4th September) - MAP/MATCH LOCATOR
Further to my earlier post, I would like to highlight a map/match locator that has been produced to help fans find a non-league fixture near them on the 4th September.
To briefly recap: There will be no Premiership or Championship fixtures on the 4th September as it is an "International Weekend" and top-flight fans are being encouraged to take in a non-league game to fill their footballing void. This campaign is called "THE NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL DAY"
This map/match locator should help Fans find a nearby venue
Click here: THE NON LEAGUE FOOTBALL DAY MAP/MATCH LOCATOR
Of course, from a Seadog point of view this is the game that will attract our attention

Scarborough Athletic v Lincoln Moorlands Railway on Saturday - First Game Of The 2010/11 Season
The new 2010/11 season starts this Saturday (7th August) when Scarborough Athletic FC host Lincoln Moorland Railway FC in the Northern Counties East League Premier Division.
The Seadogs have strengthened their squad for this campaign (more on that later this week) and will be looking to make an early statement-of-intent as the the chase for the one available promotion spot begins.
The Seadogs have been notoriously slow starters in their short history with two defeats and just one draw from the last three opening days. Time to change all that we hope.
Seadog Blog would like to see Boro kick things off in front of a good crowd on Saturday, so come on down to Queensgate and show your support for the team as they embark upon what promises to be a very exciting 9 months or so.
