Yorkshire v Warwickshire Day 2 at Scarborough

A jaunt down to North Marine Road to see day 2 of the Yorkshire CCC v Warwickshire CCC county championship game.

The 1st day of this fixture had suffered with lousy weather but today it was roasting.

The day belonged to Warwickshire though, They scored over 300 runs with Ambrose getting a ton. Ashes hero Ian Bell was in the Warwickshire team.

Yorkshires reply got off to a disastrous start and they were 0-2 at one point, eventually limping to 100-7 at stumps.

Enjoyed the day though.

Scarborough Athletic 1-2 Guisborough Town FACEP

Chambers dictionary says it all

disappoint verb (disappointed, disappointing) 1 to fail to fulfil the hopes or expectations of someone. 2 formal to prevent (eg a plan) from being carried out.

disappointed adj having one's hopes or expectations frustrated.

disappointing adj causing disappointment; frustrating one's hopes or expectations.

disappointment noun 1 the state of being disappointed. 2 something that disappoints.

But apart from the piss-poor display the biggest let-down was the conduct of two of our players. One assaulted the Ref and t'other threw his toys out when subbed. Both players now axed by the club.

A day I had looked forward to for ages turned out to be the worst day in the clubs short history. Things can only get better.

p.s. I was shirt-sponsor to one of the players involved - this sponsorship has now been shifted over to a new signing - I hope it brings better luck.

Blott No Longer On Seadog Landscape

Ah well - It was inevitable I suppose.

Scarborough Athletic F.C.'s top scorer and talisman Ryan Blott has decided to sign up for our near neighbours Whitby Town.

Whilst it is a disappointment, no team should be regarded as a one man band and I am consoled by the fact that the other strikers we have are good ones and I am sure that they will all chip in.

In the meantime I wish Ryan good luck at the Turnbull.

FA Cup Fever

Well the opening day of the NCEL started off in disappointing fashion but we can put that in the past next Sunday when Scarborough Athletic make their historic debut in the greatest cup competition of them all - the FA Cup.

The Seadogs will take on Guisborough Town in the extra-prelim round. The game goes ahead on a Sunday because our hosts, Bridlington Town FC, also have a home game in the same competition and so take priority. Actually the fact that the game is played on Sunday could boost the attendance.

Lets hope for a win and £750 in prize money!

A match poster for the game can be downloaded here (in pdf format)

Nostell Miners Welfare 2-1 Scarborough Athletic

Arrggghh - the opening day malaise strikes once more.

This time a last minute error by our keeper gifted Nostell a goal in the last seconds of the game. Gutting.

We really are a bunch of slow-starters.......but we always seem to get better, I reckon that will continue into this season.

Nostell MW are swiftly becoming our numero uno bogey side!

Predictably the doom and gloom merchants are already writing us off - after just one game!!!

Matalan to sponsor Scarborough Athletic shirts 2009/10 season

The big retailer Matalan will be sponsoring the Seadogs shirts this season

See here for the details.

This is excellent news, very few clubs at step5 in the pyramid would be able to attract such a big name. I don't know how many ££££'s it involves but it is a big feather in the cap.

Well done to all those involved in setting this sponsorship deal up.

The season starts tomorrow - away at Nostell Miners Welfare FC, I cannot wait!

Pickering Town 1 - 2 Whitby Town

Rather unexpectedly I found myself at Mill Lane last night watching a pre-season friendly between these two local rivals.

The slope at Mill Lane never ceases to amaze me.

It is a nice ground though and the Pikes are a friendly bunch.

I lost count of the amount of ex-Scarborough FC players who now turn out for both these two teams.

Ex Scarborough Athletic midfielder Dave Thompson was also in the Pikes lineup and played the full 90.

Entertaining enough game, although I thought the £5 admission was a bit steep for this sort of game.

The Goal-den Pledge

The Goal-den Pledge

Help Scarborough Athletic FC and Hanson Cooling Service Ltd (our shirt sponsors for 2009/10 season) raise a 'net profit' for charity and the club

The Goal-den Pledge is a scheme set up by Scarborough Athletic FC, in partnership with sponsors Hanson Cooling Services Ltd, in which supporters can pledge an amount per goal for the 09-10 season.

These pledges will be totalled together and split 50/50 between Scarborough Athletic FC and Saint Catherine’s Hospice in a unique fundraising system of mutual benefit.

A minimum pledge of 50p per goal is required, although supporters can pledge as much as they like. All competitive SAFC first team games during the 09-10 will be counted in the scheme, and all goals scored in 90 minutes and extra-time will be counted, including own goals.

You can cap your donation at £50 should you wish to pay no more than that amount. For example if Boro score 150 goals, and you pledge 50p per goal, you would be pledging £75. But the cap would see you pledge just £50. Tick the box below to cap your pledge.

Payment of pledges will be required in two instalments, the first by January 16th 2010, the second by May 29th 2010, by cash or cheque only.

You can join at any point during the season, but all goals will be counted regardless of when you join.

As an example if a pledge of 50p is made and Boro score 50 goals by January 16th, the person making the pledge will pay £25. £12.50 will then go to both the club and Saint Catherine’s Hospice.

It's a great gesture by both club and sponsor, I thought it deserved a plug here.

Bottesford Town 1-6 Scarborough Athletic

Well another excellent perfomance to round off the pre-season friendlies.

A bit of pre-season analysis

Played 6
Won 3
Drawn 3
Lost 0
Scored 22
Conceded 10

Not bad. I just hope it isn't one of those quirks whereby you have an excellent set of results in the pre-season and then have a dog of a season when it comes to the real stuff. Time will tell!!
