Let's Make #nonleagueday A Trending Topic On Twitter!
Saturday 4th September is NON LEAGUE DAY
Many of you will be aware of this by now - but if not then it is a campaign to encourage supporters of the bigger clubs (and anyone else for that matter) to seek out a local non-league team and lend them their support.
Saturday 4th September has been arrived at as a suitable date because there are no Premiership/Championship games scheduled (due to the England V Bulgaria Euro Qualifier played the night before).
In the words of the campaign organisers:
"WITH ENGLAND PLAYING THE NIGHT BEFORE AND THE PREMIER LEAGUE AND CHAMPIONSHIP TAKING A WEEK OFF, I URGE ALL FANS OF THE BIG CLUBS TO GET OUT AND WATCH THEIR LOCAL NON-LEAGUE TEAM INSTEAD ON SATURDAY 4TH SEPTEMBER. GIVEN THE CURRENT FINANCIAL CLIMATE, CLUBS OUTSIDE THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE NEED ALL THE SUPPORT THEY CAN GET, SO YOUR PRESENCE AT A GAME WILL BE GENUINELY APPRECIATED. WITH TICKETS AND REFRESHMENTS AT A FRACTION OF THE COST, WHAT'S STOPPING YOU?"
In a eureka moment, Seadog Blog has realised that awareness of NON LEAGUE DAY could be further heightened if it became a "trending" topic on Twitter.
Most of you will know this - Twitter picks up on "tweets" which contain the same names and phrases and if there are enough of them it puts them into the "trending" column on the right-hand side of the conventional twitter page thus attracting the attention of the curious.
With this in mind, Seadog Blog invites all twitter users to append the hashtag #nonleagueday within ALL their tweets (even those that are non football related!) from now until the end of games on Saturday.
I don't know how many #nonleagueday mentions it would take to make it a trending topic - guess that depends on just what else is happening on the planet! - but lets give it a go! If it can get just one more person to attend a non-league match then it has worked!
And of course, a plug for Seaham Red Star v Scarborough Athletic (FA Vase 1Q) & Hodgsons FC v Scarborough Athletic Reserves (Humber Premier League Div 1) both of which games occur on NON LEAGUE DAY!
