Eastfield St James 0 - 9 Scarborough Athletic (Friendly)

A stroll in the sun for the Seadogs as the pre-season build up got underway.

The game was played at the Yorkshire Coast College on the narrowest pitch Seadog Blog has seen in his life.

For the first 10 minutes or so Eastfield gave as good as they got and had a great chance to score in the opening seconds when a close range header went wide of the mark.

Slowly, but surely though, Scarborough Athletic began to control the game and towards the end they were running a tired Eastfield ragged with chance after chance.

Most of the squad from last season got a run-out as did several new faces including ex-Scarborough FC skipper Denny Ingram and former Brid man Frank Belt.

As is the case with these games there were substitutions galore but, to their credit, Athletic did not seem to lose any momentum and kept on going for it.

The nine Seadog goals came from Rob Northern (3), Scott Phillips (2 (inc 1 pen)), Ryan Blott (2), Richard Medcalf and Mark Griffin.

The crowd was quite good considering the low-key fixture, scorching weather and the Germany-Argentina counter attraction. My clicker was not working but I would guesstimate 280-300 ish. Most of the crowd could enjoy the luxury of lounging about on the grass.

All told a very entertaining friendly, not sure if anything can really be read into it but it was a darn good workout if nothing else. Sterner tests await no doubt but credit due to Eastfield who kept plugging away and their keeper, Jon Hyde, had a particularly good game.

Oh - and what a wonderful change it made being able to walk to a Scarborough Athletic game in my home town at long last! First time in three years!!  I could even have a pint in one of my favourite public-houses which was only 10 minutes away from the pitch.
